About Roofing Contractors Springfield MO

One truck and a compressor in 2011. Three crews and a shop on South Union now. Still the same phone number, still answered by somebody who has been on a roof.

The Roofing Contractors Springfield MO shop and trucks on South Union Avenue

A note from Marcus

I spent eleven years working for two of the bigger outfits in this town, and the thing that finally pushed me out was a job in Brentwood in 2010 where I was told to write up a full replacement on a roof I knew was five or six years from needing one. The customer was in her seventies. I did not do it, I got a talking-to about it, and about eight months later I bought a compressor and my brother-in-law Terry and I started doing roofs off the back of my truck.

Which sounds like a nice origin story and it is also just what happened. We are not missionaries. We are three crews out of a yard on South Union and we do want your money. The difference is that we are going to be here in 2035, so the roof we sell you in Nixa that you did not actually need is the referral we do not get for the next decade. That is not virtue, it is arithmetic, and it is a lot more reliable than virtue.

— Marcus

Who actually turns up

Marcus does most of the inspections and all of the difficult ones, which is a nice way of saying he does the arguments with adjusters. Terry runs the residential crews and has been laying shingle in this town since the late nineties. Kevin came over from commercial work about six years ago and handles the low-slope and membrane side, and he is the reason we will core a roof before quoting it rather than guessing. Denise runs the office, which means she is the person who actually gets your certificate of insurance emailed within the hour, and she is also the one who rings you if a crew is going to be late rather than letting you find out by waiting in.

There are three trucks. The oldest is a white F-250 with a magnetic sign that has been peeling off the same corner for two years, and one of these days we will replace it.

The one policy quirk that trips people up

We do not give quotes over the phone, ever, and we do not do the "roughly what would a roof cost" conversation without seeing it. It annoys some people and we understand why. The reason is that a phone number is a guess, and a guess given confidently on the phone becomes the number the customer remembers when the written estimate is different. If you want a range before you book, we have put real ones on this website, on the replacement page and the cost breakdown. That is the honest version of the phone quote.

The big names, since you are probably getting quotes from them too

You will see the national brands advertising here: Erie Metal Roofs, DaBella, Roof Maxx, CentiMark on the commercial side, and after April, a good number of out-of-state storm crews you have never heard of. And there are long-established Springfield companies, Midwest, Cox, Absolute, A-1 Guarantee, Queen City, Titan, that have been doing this as long or longer than we have. Some of them are very good. We are not going to pretend otherwise to win an argument on a website.

What we would say is: get three numbers, make sure all three are for the same scope, and read what is not on the cheap one. Drip edge, starter strip, ice-and-water, new flashing and the per-sheet decking price are the five items that separate a $9,000 quote from a $6,500 one on the same roof. If our number is higher and you can see why, that is a fair fight.

What we do

Full roof replacement and tear-off, roof repair and leak tracing, storm and hail damage repair, insurance claim documentation, emergency tarping, free roof inspections and written estimates, asphalt shingle roofing in three-tab, architectural and Class 4 impact-resistant lines, standing seam and exposed-fastener metal roofing, commercial and industrial roofing, flat and low-slope work in TPO, EPDM, PVC and modified bitumen, roof coatings and restoration, seamless gutters, soffit and fascia, roof and attic ventilation, underlayment and decking replacement, cedar shake and slate repair and replacement, synthetic slate and composite shake, skylight flashing, chimney flashing, and annual maintenance programmes for landlords and property managers.

We also do a number of things that do not justify their own page: pipe boot replacement, ridge cap replacement, roof-mounted equipment flashing, satellite and solar mount sealing, snow guards on metal, gutter guard installation, attic baffle installation and bath fan re-ducting.

Where we work

Springfield first, and then out about forty-five minutes: Republic, Nixa, Ozark, Willard, Battlefield, Strafford, Rogersville, Fair Grove, Ash Grove, Clever, Marshfield, Bolivar, Aurora, Branson, and a long list of smaller places in between. There is a full breakdown, with what the April hail actually did in each town, on the service areas page and the hail map.

Two things we will not do

Second opinion that saved me eleven grand. Storm company had me signed up for a full replacement. These guys came out, counted the hits, and told me I had maybe six marginal bruises on one slope and my policy deductible was six thousand. I cancelled inside the five days.

Denise emailed the insurance certificate in about nine minutes which is not something the other two companies managed at all. Small thing. Told me a lot.

We have four rentals in Bolivar and they do all of them once a year now. Found a boot going on one of them in March that would have been a ceiling by winter. The written report per address is genuinely useful when a tenant complains about something.

About us, answered

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, yes, and we will email the certificate of liability the same day you ask. Licensed is a more complicated word in Missouri than it is elsewhere, because there is no state roofing licence at all. What exists is city licensing. We hold a City of Springfield business licence and you can confirm it yourself in the city’s licence search or on 417-864-1617. Please do.

Are you a local company or a storm outfit?

Local. The shop is at 310 S Union Ave, Springfield, MO 65802 and it has been in Springfield since 2011. Anybody can say that, so check it: the address is real, the phone number is answered by us, and the city licence search will confirm how long the business has been registered.

How many crews do you have?

Three. That is deliberately not more. We have had chances to scale hard this summer and the reason we have not is that a crew you have known for six years does the flashing right when nobody is watching, and a crew you hired in June because everybody was busy does not.

Do you do commercial as well as houses?

Yes. Roughly a third of what we do is commercial and industrial low-slope: strip centres, warehousing along the I-44 and Chestnut corridors, churches, clinics. Some of the same crew, different systems and different scheduling.

What areas do you cover?

Springfield and out roughly forty-five minutes in any direction: Republic, Nixa, Ozark, Willard, Battlefield, Strafford, Rogersville, Fair Grove, Ash Grove, Clever, Marshfield, Bolivar, Aurora and Branson, plus everything in between. Full list on the service areas page. No travel surcharge inside it.
