Nixa did not get the storm everybody else got

This needs saying plainly, because a lot of people in this town have spent the summer being told otherwise by somebody at their door. Here is the NWS record for Nixa on April 28, 2026:

Three inches short of what fell near Bois D’Arc, and note the times. The 1.75 inch report came at 11:40 a.m. from the main cell’s southern fringe. The one inch reports came at a quarter to two in the afternoon, from a completely separate, much weaker storm. By then the record-breaking supercell was over Camden County.

One inch hail dents gutters, dimples AC condenser fins and knocks a bit of granule loose. On a roof in reasonable condition it very often does nothing that an adjuster will pay for, and that is not the adjuster being difficult. It is what one inch hail does.

What is actually worth checking on a Nixa roof

Not nothing, though. There are three real reasons to have somebody up there.

• Older unclaimed damage. Nixa has taken hail before. If your roof has a bruise history from 2023 or earlier that was never claimed and never repaired, those mats have been open to the weather for years and that is a different conversation from April.
• Wind, not hail. The same system brought straight-line wind. A creased shingle has a broken seal strip and has failed even though it is lying flat and looks perfect. Wind damage is genuinely under-claimed here.
• Age. Nixa has grown enormously since the late 1990s and a large tranche of its housing went up between about 1998 and 2008. Those roofs are 18 to 27 years old now, which is exactly the window where architectural shingle finishes in this climate. That has nothing to do with hail and it is still a roof you need to plan for.

Christian County, and what that means

Nixa is its own city in Christian County with its own building department, so neither Springfield’s permit process nor Greene County’s applies to you. It also means the City of Springfield’s contractor licence search, useful as it is, does not have jurisdiction over somebody working only in Nixa. Missouri has no state roofing licence at all. So verifying a contractor here comes down to the certificate of liability insurance, a real local address, and whether their contract contains the detachable NOTICE OF CANCELLATION form that Missouri requires on insurance-funded roofing work.
